Eurovision Song Contest had the 1st semifinal last night. By following the twitterstorm and reactions over the internet during and after the show can guarantee, that Eurovision is still alive. Results are what those are with the current 50-50 system, but I will analyze those after the full set of results are released after the final.
The 10 happy nations that got the ticket to the final are Montenegro, Hungary, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, San Marino, Ukraine, Sweden, Netherlands and Iceland.
Any surprises?
San Marino clearly that did pass and how Estonia didn´t.
How did I predict after the performances?
9/10 only Estonia failed due of San Marino.
WOM- readers voted and had 6/10 right time will tell how the 2nd semifinal will be.
Other thoughts during the show?
Starting number was maybe the weakest ever in Eurovision Song Contest history. On paper the biggest choir works, but not the real showstarter at all. Especially this year when more ballades, less pyrotechnics and so on is on stage ... the end results will be pretty boring for other than hardcore fans whom watch it thus it would be even more cut-down.
3 hosts and two things in common - bad english and no charisma.
Armenia Clearly he seems nervous and the singing is bit unsecure, which can be seen as amateurish. Visually one of the weakest from this country.
Latvia 3 minutes and not hitting the note once is for sure worth staying outside the final.
Estonia Performance which was breathtaking and for sure something that has not been seen before on stage of Eurovision. She gave it all, but Europe voted for weak songs instead.
Sweden Sanna can deliver and it´s simple beautiful act on stage. Happy for her.
Iceland Icelandic "teletubbies" brought the colour to this semifinal and the heavy message. I was bit worried, if Europe would get the message that is served in this formula, but gladly they did.
Albania She is the most talented artist, but was bit too nervous and the list how to correct what we saw is long, but putting it short ..visually it left without leaving a feeling and in contest that is not good.
Russia Tries with all the possible ways to buy the love from audience, that awarded them with BOOS. That was quite expected and not at all the 1st time for Russia. 2003 was the 1st time. "show the world some love and nothing would put us down" on lyrics is clearly similar like what´s happening now towards Ukraine, before Georgia and so on. Politics and eurovision, always been there connected and always will too.
Azerbaijan Dilara so nervous and the singing the weakest ever which surprised me. Her english was terrible and the word "people" not at all difficult word, but it was for her. Correct that till final. Also visually weakest from this country ever.
Ukraine Mariya shows the plain show without any Kyev circus on stage, less is so much more.
Belgium Singing was weak, nothing new and bad english, nothing new. Felt sorry for him. One example again, where every artist SHOULD always sing in their own language as that brings more power to the voice
Moldova Drama and artistic performance on stage. Tonight Europe was rude second time around. Perhaps could have been stronger in own language.
San Marino My personal last place last night. Charisma was lacking and that is the 1st thing that should exist, but clearly Europe did see something that I still don´t. Happy for Ralph and Valentina.
Portugal Well well speechless. This didn´t quite work in own final, so how would it here? It seemed couple of times that Suzy was either bored or tired in the middle of the song. Oh my Portugal I so hoped that you would have selected right.
Netherlands Less is more, not in this case as I still find it boring as h.. despite I love countrymusic. Charisma non existing catchyness? where? Oh well, pleased for the Netherlands for getting back on track ... kind of
Montenegro Beautiful ballade, but why on earth the roller-scater? why - that was not needed one bit.
Hungary performance is something I dislike even now and I don´t buy it. Clearly Europe didn´t bother to listen to the lyrics.
