Ukraine : Suzanna Abdulla

Suzanna Abdulla was born in 1994. She took part in X-factor.

She is unique in many levels. She has the voice and the capasity to create very visual strong performances. Still I must say it loudly, that she has no need to sell what she does with the help of sex or nudity, like was seen in this video. She has the talent and that speaks for itself. It needs no other methods as using those methods can work against instead. Anyway I liked her voice, song and hope to hear/see more soon :)

Some months ago I got to know about Pianoboy. I started to enjoy his music as that was so melodic like you will hear also in this song. And these preludes takes the melody further and the strong choruses are trademarks in my opinion in Dmitry´s music.
I adore his music, style and sound without saying also his voice. Maybe one day I get his cd.
This song "rodina/homeland" :)

UKRAINE : United artists for Ukraine Zoloti gate

Slava slava Ukraini!

Words can´t describe what´s going on in your beautiful country and how many had to die during these months. Stay strong, stay united as you are NOT alone. Me and countless more are standing for your rights and are not either giving in.

This superb hymn of Ukraine called #goldengate #zolotigate is written by famous armenian composer Sushan Sargsyan and lyrics written by famous ukrainian poet Nikolay Brovchenko.

To sing this anthem which has been seen very patriotic and many claims this to be new national anthem. Artists that are doing this project are  Vitaliy Kozlovskiy, Anastasiya Prihodko, Viktor Pavlik, Goya Masha, Masha Sobko, Igor Tatarenko, Svetlana Tarabarova, Olga Cybylskaya.

It´s no secret, that I feel for Ukraine for many reasons. And as human rights activist I am always giving time for right reasons endlessly. What´s happening in Ukraine is wrong and without getting too political or deep every nation in our world must respect each others without acting like Russia is now doing towards Ukraine right now.

Every neighbouring country is feeling how everything is different. Troops arriving close to borders, russian planes flying where these shouldn´t in Finland etc.  And only because of one man! I ask why?!

Slava slava Ukraini my heart is beating in same rhythm with you.

The Kolya

This artist is also totally new to me. That´s how I did listen many of his songs and he offers many styles, which is certainly good thing.

Information is non-existing, which is in my opinion strange. But keeping the ukrainian week going this was allowed :)
You might like to visit his website  or facebook
By visiting the website you will see the video, which show different side of his music :)
"like secrets"

This is slow melodic ballade in style less is so much more. His voice works also in this type of song and this was stylish :)

Ukraine : Dinama

Dinama is quite new ukrainian duo, which is under the wings of Konstantin Meladze. Masha & Diana are the members. Information in their website is amazingly "selected",but maybe there is more coming soon :)

Ukraine : The Hardkiss

The Hardkiss was founded in 2011 when Julia Sanina & Valeri Bebkon met. Later joined  two other members. Group plays electronicpop and I have personally loved their style and their videos too.

The hardkiss changed recordcompany in 2012 and since then worked on their forthcoming album. Debut album will be released in autumn.
Here is their new single/video "Stones"   I hope that you enjoy :)
You might like to visit their website

I like Julia´s voice and this superb sound, that the Hardkiss has. And there is bit of the 80´s feeling of depeche mode and still sounding from this century. I like the nice and surprising changes before the closing chapter. Great superb and this album is definately something I am looking forward to :)

2014: Eurovision Song Contest 1st semifinal

ESC2014 1/3

Eurovision Song Contest 2014 is 59th and my 44th. This contest is the oldest international still running song contest in the world. Annually between 35-43 european countries, whom are members of European Broadcasting Union EBU take part. Normally each nation´s broadcaster arranges the national selection for the contest, so this is huge event. I will later on get back to history and this plus that and so much more, but now focus on this years contest and the 37 countries, artists and songs that take part.

Directly in final are the big 5 UK;Spain,Germany,Italy and France plus the last years winner Denmark. All other countries are competing first in 2 semifinals. In which semifinal and on which startingnumber everyone participates is the do or die question and it´s been done by the lot (draw). For the final after the semifinal is the winners pressconference, where they receive their starting number. Exciting and confusing for first timers whom are reading this blog, but believe me you get the point and you can always ask either by commenting on the blog OR sending the message to me --- look on your right (there´s the box message us)

Semifinal 1 - 16 countries  are competing for the 10 places in the final.  In this blog we will also have our opinion and you may put the songs in order  the best one gets 12 points 2nd best 10, third best 8, 7,6,5,4,3,2 and finally 1. The rest gets nothing. This voting system was created in Finland 1973.

Empty room was the moral winner no doubt in there and bigger hit in Sweden. 2011 she returned with the song" I´m in love" which came 4th and finally came back again 2014 with this song "undo" and she finally won.She has released 8 albums.

Her victory was creating an scandal of some level in Portugal, but that´s part of the contest. As long as it creates strong feelings and opinions this contest is doing well.
14) Netherlands  Common Linnets is an duo. Ilse Annoeska de Lange, born 1977 Almelo and she debuted 1994. Released 1st single 1996 being part of the popgroup and own album in 1998. OPINION A = previews  B= semifinal
1A) Armenia   song is bit 2 dark and far too slow for my taste, but still this has something. Visually thinking this offers lots of possibilities for an really superb act on stage. Diaspora takes care, that this gets to the final, but for the first time I don´t like the entry from Armenia. Song repeats the title far too many times and I suppose everyone knows it, bt that´s not the point in this contest.
2A) Latvia      song is simply such an campfire singalong. It doesn´t stick in mind, it doesn´t much annoy either. With neutral songs the only hope is that their charisma wins over the voters heart. In my opinion they lack the charisma totally, if looking only to the latvian selection, but you never know what happens on stage later.
3A) Estonia   song is catchy poptune, but the new version took away the strong chorus. That is the trend of the year. Either I am totally oldfashioned or simply too hard with professional ear and eyes. This will qualify without any doubts as voters will adore the danceact on stage. I like this still a lot and is one of the strong entries this year.
4A) Sweden  song honestly wasn´t my favourite from the beginning as I was hoping for an strongly ballade like the empty room was, but that was my problem that. Song "undo" is beautiful modern popsong, bit cold sounds, but without an doubt clear qualifier.
5A) Iceland  honestly I liked the song that came 2nd far more, but after this won I had to give this a chance. I knew before that this group is popular so I wasn´t as shocked as most of eurofans around europe was after icelandic final. But honestly this group has great message so listen to their lyrics and go with the flow. This fills perhaps the annual kitch-label, but I find this pretty cool song and I hope they will qualify. Big question is whether their humour and their way of bringing strong message gets thru.
6) Albania  once again this country sends out very talented artist, maybe the best artist infact. The song has very unique melody, which might be once again difficult for most of the audience, bt give this a chance. This 3 minutes version is strong. One of my big favourites from this semifinal, if only those electric quitars could be somehow dropped from this. Arrangement could be better, but I think this functions still.
7) Russia  I don´t like this one bit. Only question is why this is written at all?  Sure gals have been in Junior Eurovision and took home the trofy, but still this song isn´t good. No rubbish. And my opinion would be the same even without the Russia´s act against Ukraine ... some fans protest stronger, I let the music speak and this is just bad.
8) Azerbaijan  Usually I don´t like the entries from this country, but this year this song is very good and artist is talented and yes I liked the colour of her voice and instruments, which matched her voice perfectly. Strong entry.
9) Ukraine  Usually I like the entries from Ukraine for the reason explained earlier. This time the new version they made is simply not working in my opinion. This lacks the catchyness which every chorus needs. I do hope that I am so wrong.
10) Belgium  Fans are screaming the name of Axel and seeing him practically an messias whom bring the song contest victory to Belgium, but honestly I don´t understand what´s the fuzz about. Sure lyrics are worth notification, but singing isn´t. I don´t find his voice strong, nor song musically speaking that special. Infact boring cry for help kind of song. Well. I am sorry but I think this is an another flop as Belgium had very good song in final, which could have done miracles. this just doesn´t.
11) Moldova   This was my 2nd favourite from Moldovan nat.selection this year. This is very strong entry with dramatic melody. I advice that you would listen the lyrics and you will see, that we have all experienced the very same.
12) San Marino  Honestly I would like to complain. When a country sends same artist over and over again and whom still doesn´t make it ... is that wise? Not in my book for the artist nor the country. Last year the song was amazing, this year it´s so pale memory of that and this just doesn´t work. So sorry. Despite this is written by my friend I am so sorry, that I don´t see this has any chance what so ever this year, when there is so many ballades so we will see Valentina once more?
13) Portugal  Honestly this wasn´t my favourite to win .. it was my 4th runner-up.  This song is typical partysong and Portugal has done well with this type songs before. Gladly the backingvocals are changed and a lot is promised for this act. But giving this the verdict how it is today I must say, that this might get thru, but a lots of changes must take place for it to do so.
14) Netherlands  I don´t know actually how Netherlands have been able to do so poorly during the past years, when the nation is full of amazing artists and songwriters. This time they send talented artists, but it´s pity that the song wasn´t part of the package. Song is boring, so boring such a one note samba and this is not doing the trick for them this year either and I am so sorry for that.
15) Montenegro  Finally they send Sergej to eurovision. I have so waited for quite some time. This song is very typical ballade from balkan, but I would say yes but also with celtic touch. Song is beautiful, maybe the best ballade of the year atleast to me. Heartbreaking melody and the arrangement is perfect and visually I can see the possibilities what they can create on stage and hopefully they do it too :)  Love it :)
16) Hungary  Honestly I don´t like the song. Mainly because of it´s theme, which is important to point out for sure, but for some like me this gets far too personal aswell. I could say, that it could be a song of my life and it would still be far too clean version. This artist can do great music, great songs, but this is far from being the best what he can do. Difficult to say, but I think this will get thru to the final.

gets to the final     preview     seminal
  Moldova                        12
  Montenegro                   10
  Estonia                            8
  Sweden                           7
  Azerbaijan                       6
  Albania                           5
  Iceland                           4

Ukraine: Lissa Wassabi

Lissa Wassabi, born 1992, won the childrens songcontest in 2008 and soon after recorded 1st single. Later she makes the disappearence act from publicity and records an album in 2011 which is not released.
This selected video is her released yesterday. You might visit her website

For me her voice compared to the melody makes this quite plain song very interesting. This is also an good example when less is a lot more. And yes this is totally on her shoulders and she can carry it to the end.
Personally I would have developed the chorus a bit, but that´s the Mr Grumpy part :)

Ukraine : Krugers

During the summer 2013 the guys decided to give this a try. Few months later the russian Mumiy Troll group asked them for their tour. Later guys started to write songs for their forthcoming album. Two songs have been released from that "I´m maniac" and the one I chose for you "I don´t want the love"
Their website is still under work, but I add it here

This song is amazing one both visually and musically. So melodic and in this there is something that you want to listen it again and see the story once more. Once is not enough though :) Love it :)

ukraine: Via Gra

Via Gra is once again dominating the charts. Now with new members they are ready to do it again

Anyway I am glad over the group as I have missed them. I remember their break-thru hit "popetka nr5 / try the number 5" which was absolutely smashing. This hit song is written by the georgian Meladze and that can be heard. No wonder it is so calculatively written and so catchy. I have adored his music ... just wait, I will write about him soon too.

Via Gra has had many faces, which could mean either time or persons and both correct. That´s typical matter with popgroups. Via Gra has 13 years of career and Via Gra has always been number 1 group. Now when georgian Konstantin Meladze is taking care of the group and when they own the rights for the name Via Gra (patent) this quarantees even clearer future and success.

Via Gra has 3 members, Misha Romanov, Eric Herceg and Anastasia Kozhevnikov. You can read all about the group from their official website

I selected for you their 1st single  "peremirie/truce" from new album "magic"

Ukraine: Lavika

Ukraine has many styles, many faces and it always surprises. One of the favourite groups for me is Lavika. Lavika is rather new group, which started to make music in 2011 in Kiev. They have released so far 3 albums, 2 dvds and 13 videoclips. This group makes very catchy popsongs, which gain success. They often do two versions in english and in russian. I add their newest release for you here in both versions. Song is so catchy, that you will be singing along directly and continue for quite some time :) Happy listening.

Ukraine : Roleks

We are back in Ukraine. Despite the situation I decided to to maintain positive spirit as nothing is yet lost.Stay strong, stay united.

Roleks is rather new group, which started in 2012 making music together. They had one goal and to make a difference and so they have done very well. 2012 came out 1st single "crazy" which did show what they are made of, talented young musicians with great sense of humour. This is how the video was done and no wonder it got the 1st price being the video of the year. This video by them is called "you" and same theme continues. I liked their 1st and I like this one too. Certainly there is some remarks I could say, but I leave those as I liked the package if I can say so :)
Website exist, bt unfortunately there is most likely technical probl. as the access is not available.

Ukraine: Vera Breznev & Russia: Irina Allegrova & Slava

Back in Ukraine :)
Vera Breznev, born 1982, is popartist, actress and tvhost. Vera Breznev was also part of the famous Ukrainian popgroup Via Gra between the years 2002-2007 and their debut hit was "poputka no5", which in my opinion is still very superb popsong. 2007 she was selected as the most sexiest woman in Russia and 2010 the most beautiful woman in Ukraine. Now we know, that she has the looks, but she is also amazing artist and received various prizes.
Released 5 albums, of which 4 with Via Gra. New song "dobro jutro" good morning was released week ago and was filmed in US and the song is written by Konstantin Meladze, which can be heard.  You can visit her website for more http://brezhneva.com/

moving over the border to Russia...
Irina Allegrova, born 1952. Her armenian father changed the family surname to Allegrov. Irina was raised up in very theatrical family. Therefor it´s no surprise, that she did study piano playing and ballet when she was growing up then in Baku. She got a child at very young age and moved to Moscow with her. There in 1983 she got the chance to make an debut and rest is history. She has even created own festival, where it gives price "golden duck" to the journalists whom came up with the worst lies that year. Not an bad idea at all in my opinion. Last year she announced, that she will retire and won´t be doing any concerts other than rarely. Before the Sochi olympics she made this song "first kiss, last kiss" with an another russian star, Slava.
Irina Allegrova is one of the russian superstars and even that is put it lightly. Released 12 albums. You may visit her website http://www.irinaallegrova.com/
Slava aka Anastasia Alevskaya, born 1980 in Moscow, made the comeback in 2004. Released so far 3 albums and has received various prizes. Her clear strong voice gets wide fanbase and you may read more about her http://www.slavamusic.ru/
